In Memorium...Nick Hall 1937-2026

It is with great sadness that on 15th May 2026 we lost our long time Trustee and friend Nick Hall. Nick gave so much of himself to the running of Portchester Community Association over the years, giving back to the local community he loved.

Our thoughts are very much with his wife Wendy and his family, you will be sorely missed. You will forever be the star on the top of Portchester's Christmas tree.

Eulogy form his fellow trustee & friend Adrian...

I first met Nick and Wendy in February 1994, when I joined Portchester Petanque Club, my Mum & Dad were already members.

Over the first year I gradually got to know the other members and in January 1995 I was voted onto the Committee as Vice-Captain and Nick Captain.

We entered a team in the Summer SCPA League soon flying high in Division 1. With more members persuaded to join the league team, we had to have Portchester Penguins and Portchester Pumas. I was Captain of 1 team and Nick the other. During this time, the Portchester Community Association was based in the old Community in Westlands Grove. Nick was the Treasurer. He got me involved in the Gala assisting with marshalling the stall holders to their correct places on the castle field.

In 2013 the PCA had to move into the village as a new Community Centre was being built on the car park of the old one and the running of it was given to the school.

Nick along with Dennis transformed the current HUB into the layout it is today and they always put the Christmas tree up, which eventually he roped me in to help.

Nick has always been a community man, helping out where he can, never able to sit down for long. Even last year still working at the Gala from early until late. He talked common sense and remained Treasurer to the PCA until 2024, when he convinced me to take over.

Away from PCA and Petanque, we, that being Nick, Wendy, my mum and me, had several adventurous day trips to France.

On one occasion in Cherbourg we had a while until the ferry and so we had food and drink in the shopping centre. This is where Nick and Wendy got a liking for Cellier des Dauphins wine. In fact, too much of a liking, as Nick forgot we had his car and he needed to drive back to the ferry port. All was well and we got home safely.

I cannot believe Nick is no longer with us and I will miss his comradery and experience he brought to the hub for all those years.

Rest in Peace mate!

Adrian
